Polly
Polly is a pocket arranger for the FM-1. This page runs the same code as the FM-1, so you can try it here.
Turn your phone sideways for bigger controls.
QY70 styles
If you own a QY70, pick or drop its main ROM here (MAME calls it qy70main.bin). Polly builds the QY70's 128 preset styles in your browser, and they come after Polly's own 16 on the Style knob. The ROM never leaves your computer, and this browser keeps the styles for your next visit.
Getting started
Polly plays a style. A band of eight instruments follows the chords you play. Press Switch on above, and try these steps.
- Turn KNOB 1 on the Home page to pick a style.
- Press PLAY. Groove A starts.
- Play a chord with three keys or more. The band follows it, and keeps it after you let go.
- Hold HOME and press black key 3 for Groove B. On this page, Shift-click HOME to hold it. The screen shows what each key does while you hold HOME.
- Hold HOME and press a white key. The band plays that key's progression over and over.
- Press HOME again for the Song page. Each white key adds a section that plays that progression.
- SAVE is lit when something isn't saved. When Polly is stopped, it also saves by itself after a few seconds.
The ten short lessons in School work here too.
For your QY70 styles, press Load QY70 ROM above. They come after Polly's own 16 on the Style knob. To put them on an FM-1 running Polly, run python3 tools/qy70_install.py qy70main.bin.
MIDI from your computer plays all 16 channels, like a General MIDI sound module.

Saving
SAVE keeps your songs, grooves and settings in this browser. Factory reset clears them but keeps the QY70 styles. To remove those, press Forget QY70 styles. What you hear is Polly itself running, not a recording.

Pyodide (MPL-2.0) runs Polly's tools to build the QY70 styles from your own ROM. The styles are © Yamaha, and nothing of Yamaha's is on this site. The idea of running FM-1 firmware in the browser comes from Groove OS's emulator.
